At my direction, from somewhere  in Colorado in July, I directed my family to start planning a rally to take place in St Paul, Minnesota when I returned to Minnesota after completing the Walk Across America. Knowing that making a plan and implementing the plan would be a learning experience for all, I gave only general parameters and a few suggestions from  rallies I had experienced or seen during the walk. I kept my expectations realistic also based on events that Laird created or that other people organized for us. Such a wide range of possible outcome from each person's efforts, I knew that I might have to consider me speaking to a crowd of my 5 family members, a success.

On November 6, 2010, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. on the Minnesota State Capitol steps, we had the rally.  The weather was beautiful.  Our crowd was about 40, with an additional 20 tourists stopping to listen while  passing by to visit the State Capitol. The four speakers spoke about 25 minutes of message.   Because the event was after the Nov. 2, election, we had a sign saying "SOLD" on the Capitol steps. Five people (real human persons), were dressed up as corporate persons, one man came with a guitar, two children arrived with drums, and the Capitol Security cop was polite and helped locate an electrical outlet for our sound system.  In spite of numerous press contacts, press releases sent, and notices posted, there was no media present. I was very pleased with how this event was carried out and how it looked.  This is the first of many events that I will have in Minnesota and each event will be better than the one before because we will get very good at this exercise.

Following several busy days that included celebrations, speeches, street theatre, a reception, and enthusiastic tourism with family, today Laird and Robin drove to Ocean City, Maryland. We walked to the Atlantic Ocean and wet our feet in the ocean. With this final ritual we do claim that we have indeed walked the distance from sea to sea. We acknowledge that to our individual miles walked, we have included the miles walked along our route by family, friends, and supporters, to the total 3200+  miles to the ocean. We further acknowledge that our collective thousands of steps to traverse these miles, constitute but a single first step toward a very difficult task of reversing the Supreme Court's opinion.  Corporations, with the gift of  corporate personhood, are superior to real persons, and real persons will continue to be subordinate to corporations until a constitutional amendment is passed to abolish corporate personhood.

Here is one of the visuals from the Monahan Brothers' Rally on October 20, 2010 in a rainy Washington D.C.
The January 21, 2010 opinion of the U.S. Supreme Court granted corporations personhood status and the right to spend unlimited money on any political campaign or legislative issue. Now every elected position, every issue, every branch of our government can be legally bought by corporate money. Yes indeed, our government is now up "FOR SALE".
More photos from the rally will be added later.

Today was a great day to walk, perhaps because of the contrast in weather conditions. Yesterday was really miserable in the mountains. Today 30 degrees warmer, dry and cloudless, and full sun all day. And today there was time and light for pictures.
photo #1 At some of the turns in the road east of Storm Mountain, West Virginia a small town on U.S. Hwy. 50 west of Keyser, WV, there are views that will stretch your line-of-sight a long way to the horizon.
photo #2 Only a few of the trees had this much color, a preview of the color to come in the next week or so.
photo #3 And this view to the east is a reminder that in West Virginia there are many ranges of mountains to cross before we reach Virginia.

Last Saturday Laird and Robin were invited to participate in the One Nation Working Together rally at the Capital Mall in Washington D.C. on October 2, 2010.
These photos give a visual feel of what we saw there but I will also add that the joyful, enthusiastic energy present was palpable. There we were with 200 000 of our closest friends passing our literature and talking to 100s of individuals.

We have made such good time this week even with an occasional rain shower. The past four days have been similar in routine with a four hour walk in the morning and a two hour walk in the late afternoon. These three photos illustrate just a few of the activities that we experienced in the past six days.
photo #1 The car has a new look with the banner signs Laird mounted on the side and rear bumper. These signs were made for us in St. Louis, MO
photo #2 Here is Laird speaking at the press conference on Friday, August 27, 2010. The venue was the Assembly Parlor Room in the Wisconsin State Capitol Building. The entire building was beautiful and well worth the time for a visit and tour the next time you're in Madison, WI. There were several candidates campaigning for office that also spoke in support of the Monahan Brother's message and walking the talk. Other people in the picture include my wife and my youngest 11 year old son. You will have to guess which faces they are.
photo #3  Here is Laird celebrating his 70th birthday one week early. Our sister Jean E, who never misses a chance to party, brought this party all the way from Chicago to Flora, Illinois, right to or motel room door and surprised us this evening with a knock on our door. Cake, balloons, birthday cards, candles, and ice cream were part of the festivities. Jean E ate ice cream and Cake then had to leave to drive back to Chicago. We are always amazed at my sister's resourcefulness, we think she has "connections". I think she just put "her people" to work on intelligence gathering. In any case, we applaud everything she does because she does it all so well.

Here are a few photos from the rally in St. Louis at the City Garden Park. What a wonderful venue for a little free speech. I particularly liked the variety of sculptures, water features and people enjoying what the park has to offer. There were lots of children enjoying the water features while parents watched and conversed with their neighbors. It is a user friendly park for sure. Even park security was respectful and avoided intervention unless safety was an issue.
photo #1  On Saturday morning we walked across the Mississippi River over the Eads Bridge into East St. Louis, Illinois with Rick La Monte. Rick took our picture with St. Louis, Missouri in the background.
photo #2  City Garden, a great place for a rally.
photo #3  Laird gave his 10 minute speech twice to a diverse and changing assembly
photo #4  On the steps of Christ Church Cathedral in St. Louis, MO Left to right; Laird, Barbi Click, Tom Allen, Robin. What an amazing story that spans 55 years from New York City to Florida to London to St. Louis, leading to this meeting on the steps.

Kip, How did your walk and rally go in Lancaster, PA?

Laird and Robin were at a rally in Kansas City, Missouri, with several groups under the Move To Amend coalition. Our blog site: lairdandrobin.org has some text and photos with links to additional photos. I think the MoveToAmend.org  web site also has additional information. There are people working to set up some kind of event in St. Louis, MO, Springfield, IL, Chicago, IL, Cincinnati, OH, Columbus, OH, and the grand finally at the Lincoln Memorial in D.C.. In each of these cities there are individuals who raise the cry; "We don't have enough time."  Kip, as you know, there will never be "enough time" until the people who ring their hands and whine start to do what needs to be done. Good for you to have found people willing and able to do what needs to be done. You must be a good motivator. Keep up the good work.

Walking in Missouri in August has heat issues that have caused us to adjust our routine. We are usually walking by 6:00 a.m. and quit by 11:00. This lets us get in about 25 miles or so in the coolest part of the day. Then we start looking for the air conditioned comfort of a motel with free WIFI. This is a little slower pace than when the weather was cooler. So today we are 86 days and over 2000 miles into this walk and we seem to be holding up.

Hoping to hear from you, we wish you success in all that you do. Best wishes, R....

A very well organized rally was held in Kansas City on Monday, August 9, 2010 at 6 p.m. in Mill Creek Park near the beautiful fountain was the place to be for music, art, song, speeches and fellowship, all for the purpose of raising Kansas City's awareness of the issue of corporate personhood and how to amend the constitution to abolish it. Here are a few photos to help you get an impression of what we enjoyed.
